  2. Hi Jan!

    I transcribed the lyrics!!

    (stanza 1)
There’s a brokenness inside of you
there’s a wound that still reminds you
of a fear and shame and rejection
you have seen, you have seen

    (stanza 2)
you know it’s time to get up
but your heart’s paralyzed, you’re so stuck
you’re past the point of trying again
    you’re defeated, you’re defeated

but something inside you can’t deny
you hear the call of your Creator
I made you for more, unlock the door
    I wanna restore your Glory
    So Rise
Breaking the dark, piercing the night
    you’re made to shine
an army of hope, bringing the world a ray of light, a ray of light
    you were made to Rise

    (stanza 3)
Lift your head and look around you
see the dreams you lost, they have found you
and the heart that once was beating
coming back to life, coming back to life

    (back to chorus)

    shut the door on yesterday
leave what happened in the grave
    you were made to rise
    you were made to shine
    Creation’s longing for the day
for kings and queens to take their place
    you were made to rise
    you were made to shine

Breaking the dark, piercing the night
    Made to shine
Bring the world a ray of light
breaking the dark, piercing the night
    you’re made to shine
an army of hope, bringing the world a ray of light
    a ray of light
you were made to rise, Rise (repeat line to fade)

I am loving this song already. it’s a great anthem and I can almost see of an army of fans holding signs with Rise written on to hold up during the chorus. This is a song that begs for a live video recording just for that. I can’t wait to hear it live in a couple of weeks.

  3. Thanks, Lori! It is a lot easier with the actual song recording, isn’t it. I see a couple of little words I’d change, but this is a BIG help!!

I think #BetterThanIFoundIt has to be a live recording of the song with ALL those people on their feet, swaying and holding the lights of their phones in the air…

I think Danny needs to go down tha live recording route!!

  4. Does it look like Danny is getting better billing than Unspoken?

Yes. Bigger close-up photo, bigger font, better placement.

Not that we notice those things of course 😉

And they don’t see all that far apart CCM-wise, although I’d expect Danny with his AI and country exposure has much more name recognition fwiw.

Unspoken is an American Christian pop rock band.[1] The band is composed of Mike Gomez, Jon Lowry, Chad Mattson and Ariel Munoz.[1][2] The band released their debut single “Who You Are” on the record label Centricity Music. Released on June 12, 2012,[3] the song has charted on numerous Christian song charts, and was the only song from the band’s debut EP Get to Me to be featured on their first full length album. The self-titled debut LP Unspoken was released April 1, 2014. A five-song preview EP, The World Is Waking, was released July 24, 2013.They have had four straight Top 5 AC singles in their career including “Who You Are,” “Lift My Life Up,” “Start A Fire,” and “Good Fight,” with “Start A Fire” reaching No. 1; the song “Life My Life Up” was also included on the 2015 WOW Hits Release.[4] With successful tours alongside artists such as Big Daddy Weave and Sanctus Real, Unspoken has built steady momentum with their last two EP’s.[5] Their album features diverse recording, befitting a diverse band from all over the country including Maine, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.[6]

  5. Fun to have a new song to watch, good updates Lurker.

    A little bus interview here

And this is fun with Danny’s Chuck Berry imitation before the more serious discussion of the thought behind #Rise

  6. I loved the Chuck Berry imitation. And I’ve been to Noah’s Ark in The WI Dells 😉

Equal time for Air1. Rahny Taylor was one of the Milwaukee DJs that worked at KISS FM during Danny’s Idol run. They were so supportive!

  7. I wonder if Danny’s depression was after he was let go from RCA. I’m happy he’s in a better place now. RISE is a beautiful song. His next hit. 🙂

    Thank you for the videos.

  8. I loved the Chuck Berry imitation. And I’ve been to Noah’s Ark in The WI Dells😉

Danny gave them a little commercial shoutout, so he must have liked it as a kid

  9. Wisconsin Dells has some incredible natural beauty— but it is also VERY commercial. It calls itself the America’s Waterpark Capital! So it is a kid’s paradise for waterparks, go-carts, trinkets, fudge, etc…. We would take our kids there each summer. For a family with lots of kids and not a ton of money, I’m sure Wisconsin Dells was a BIG deal for Danny and his family. It would have been rather expensive. However, a lot of church & civic groups bring buses of kids to the Dells. When Danny says it was a big crowd, I bet it was full on a hot, summer day!

Cindy, Danny has talked about a dark depression he was going through when he was finishing the recording of HIFOM and especially the writing of “It’s Not Over”. I think it occurred in late fall/Christmas season of 2013 from what he’s said. This coincides with Danny having to scrap “TYHTBA” as their lead single in late November/early December when the original group decided to release it. They had to write a new song to lead the album (HIFOM) and all the promotion of TYHTBA must have felt wasted. Danny probably thought his last chance of a career in music was slipping away…. I remember him expressing how glad he was to drop the microphone in the recording booth for the last time…. I watched it unfold and I think his ability to withstand another career setback was at an all time low.

But all things worked out just beautifully in the end. Danny released an original that went to #1, he had a chance to release TYHTBA. It went to number 1, while the original didn’t get the national exposure that his did. As he has said, he had to let go, turn it over to God and just put one foot in front of the other.

I’m pretty sure there will be a sequel to the book… 😉

  10. Living in Southern Wisconsin, the constant commercials for Noah’s Ark in the Wisconsin Dells is forever engraved in our memories. Danny spit out their commercial very well 😉

  11. Thank you, Jan. What a trying time that must have been for Danny. I’m so happy things turned out well for him. It’s Not Over was a strong song for my husband and I. Now, I know it was for Danny, too.

  13. A nice review of Creation Fest:

Danny Gokey, a third-place finalist from “American Idol” in 2009, offered more of a funk feel with some of his songs, providing a nice combination with the pop feel of his other songs. His message was about celebrating marriage and love. Although Gokey cut his set short when a girl in the crowd experienced health problems and had to be taken out, the crowd could feel his passion, and the performance still felt complete.

  14. I really enjoyed meeting Danny and getting a picture with him at the Creation Festival in Kennewick, WA with my Service Dog. This was my second concert ever and I was very excited to attend. This was part of a recovery plan that was to help me stay positive during my first six months since I was recently medically retired from the military after 32yrs of service. My plan to keep Positive started the week before when I attended my first Wounded Warrior Care Event in Tacoma, WA. The day after the Care Event ended I was in Kennewick, WA to see Danny. I then got to spend the week with my oldest son, his wife and my first grandchild. They live in Pasco, WA. I left there headed back home to southern Oregon and on the way stopped to see Danny one more time in Eugene, OR. I was blown away by this third concert and all the artist, but especially by seeing Danny at the Capstone of this event! The Positive Hits Line up was way beyond anything I expected! Hollyn, Passion, Capitol King, and DANNY!! Truly was an awesome way to cap my Positive Plan for retirement. Seeing Danny in concert was the first thing I added to my plan because his song, TYHTBA was so important to my still being here and finding hope that could get me past this darker time in my life and move forward toward a life that God must still have in His Plan for me or why would I still be here? Thank you Danny for moving forward with God’s Plan for your life so that your songs could reach so many more like me!!

  16. Times are a changing…. nice things being posted at MJs about Danny?

On the heels of a new Spanish language album, and four Dove Award nominations, Danny Gokey has released a brand new Christian contemporary single titled “Rise.” The American Idol season 8 singer has become a star in the world of Christian music with songs that offer hope and inspiration to folks who are experiencing hard times. Danny seems to have found his niche.

  17. Danny’s talent can cross over to many types of musical styles. His voice is that good. I feel it’s only the beginning. His star is rising in the Christian music world. He may not have wanted or thought to go into this music genre, but it does fit him beautifully. He’s able to mix the styles of music he always talked about. It’s not only his music, it’s the honest kindness that Danny gives to his fans. It’s been a wonderful journey watching this young man from his Idol days to now. Very happy for him, and can’t wait to see what he will accomplish in the future.

..it’s nice to read that MJ might be eating a little humble pie.

The WOW hits apparently do quite well, Danny has a good thing with a song placed on the new 2017 edition for additional sales and exposure to new fans. The 2016 WOW album is at #32, and 2015 is still on the charts at #79. Plus there are additional WOW compilations for Gospel and Worship songs charting from 2015 and 2016.

  19. The WOW Hits is a pretty good deal. 30 songs for $10? The artists aren’t getting rich, but they are already recorded songs and the exposure is great.

The #RISE era of Mediabase watching has started! Only K-LOVE shows up, so far, and they are treated very strangely at Mediabase. They get only 12 spins, but a lot of AI:
