“Summerfest is probably the one show, the most rewarding show for me as an artist, it’s a real festival for me to play at,” Danny Gokey says. “It’s just the hometown crowd.”
It’s been 6 (long) years since Danny Gokey has headlined a stage at the “World’s Largest Music Festival” in his hometown of Milwaukee, WI. But on Sunday, July 2nd he returns for Summerfest’s 50th Anniversary celebration! Danny will return to the Briggs & Stratton “Big Backyard Stage” at 6 PM for a family friendly time and show.
Other headliners also performing that day is Pink, Steve Miller Band, Andy Grammer, Ziggy Marley, Peter Frampton, Laura Alaina, Dylan Scott and more! There are over 100 artists listed at Summerfest.com
The Summerfest grounds was the location for the famous, 2009 “Danny Gokey Days”. Danny returned to Milwaukee as one of the Top 3, “American Idol” finalists for a hometown visit and concert. Do you remember this?
Milwaukee “American Idol” hopeful Danny Gokey returns home for a day of pomp and ceremony today, visiting TV and radio stations and Milwaukee landmarks in advance of a 4:30 p.m. parade down Chicago toward the Summerfest grounds, where he’ll give a short 5:15 p.m. concert. The whole day will be filmed by “American Idol,” which will broadcast the footage next week—so if you want to see yourself on national television, spare no expense on glitter for your “I Heart Danny” signs… Shepherd Express –05/08/2009
Danny performed in concert in 2010 and 2011 at Summerfest and then did subsequent promo events for the festival (Land the Big Gig). We are glad that the wait is almost over to see Danny return to music festival!
Danny’s lead single, “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me”, is featured in this video from Summerfest as performed in 2010:
This makes me SO happy.
For any Danny fans that can make the trip, this is the concert to attend in 2017. The love that Milwaukee has shown and how on FIRE Danny is to perform at Summerfest is not to be missed!
And their is no concert fee for all but one of the headliners that night (P!nk) all of the stages are free! Except for the $20 general admission to Summerfest. Tons of food and amusements for the whole family.

This is too good to pass up. It’seems been a long six years his last performance at S’fest, I just hope I can swing it.
Six years is a long time in a music career. It seems the post-Idol years in country, the cruises, SHF, and all were a really long time ago. I personally don’t agree when Danny said his first music career flopped, but I am sure it felt that way to him when the gigs dried, up radio said “No, thanks” and he waited for a new label to sign him…. but the impatient guy (and an impatient fan like me) waited it out and look how it is flourishing. It’s great to see. I believe Danny has a deeper appreciation for it this time around.
I also heard that he was offered the choice of the WI State Fair or Summerfest. Nice to come back to WI like that!
I agree with you, Jan, I wouldn’the consider Danny’s so-called “first music career” a flop. Country radio may have had a bias against him for not sounding country enough and his label wasn’t supportive enough but audiences embraced him wherever he went. I’m proud that he didn’t give up. He’s proving he has the talent to go far.
I am so excited that Danny is coming back to Summerfest!!! Now to get details and plan with friends to go and enjoy his great songs!!!!!!
Looking forward to it, too! See you there 🙂
