Wow.. that brought back memories. The only American Idol season I watched. It was exciting to see them all perform live. They all did a great job! Where did the time go??
Bakersfield is a distance away from us. We have one radio station up here. Not very good reception. Off the mountain we’re able to listen to many stations. We’ve heard Danny a few times.
Thank you.. 🙂

When I checked this morning Danny’s single now has 12 monitored stations playing it. One might be WAY FM, which was only a test spin, but still it is good to see the growth.

I haven’t heard “If You Ain’t in It” yet on the radio. But I have heard “Hope in Front of Me” and “Masterpiece.” I’m hoping the local Christian radio stations — or at least The Fish — will play him more in the upcoming weeks, as he is supposed to play FishFest locally this year.
And no, I’m not going, even though Danny will be more or less in my backyard. I’m too old to sit in the sun that long. Plus, I don’t want to risk poor air quality again. There are a lot of fires in the state already, though none are affecting the air where I live — yet. Truthfully, I’ve never forgiven FishFest for delaying the start of the concert without explanation, particularly with so many families there with young children. I was affected by the poor air quality for several days, so I can’t imagine what the air did to young lungs. FishFest obviously had no control over the weather/air, but it did have control over the information it provided, which allows people to make appropriate decisions. Reminded me very much of the first Danny Gokey cruise and how poorly Carnival handled the delay.
Danny is further along in the lineup this year — third from the top, instead of second from the bottom. So it will be Danny, Jeremy Camp, and then Newsboys as the headliner.
Finally heard IYAII on Air1 @ 9:30 p.m. last night!

I hear it almost every day on Air1….so yay me!!! GokeyGroupie

I’m hoping that many more stations add IYAII to their playlist. I don’t think my Madison station ever added Masterpiece. They have played HIFO, Rise, TYHTBA, The Comeback. But backed away from MTYTIA

Top 30 is a good milestone. I haven’t been following closely but that seems fairly quick from when it was in the 40s, to pass into top 30?
He also says that Leyicet did the moving while he was on the road…. for the 2nd time.

Talking about old songs…I wish Danny would sing again “I Will Not Say Goodbye” ….this song has been instrumental in healing me over the loss of my Dad almost 21 months ago….GokeyGroupie

Thank you, Jan. I remember Danny singing that song. I enjoyed many of the songs he would sing back then..
I’m sorry for your loss, ANGELSNELL.. GokeyGroupie.
IWNSG, is a beautiful song. I cry every time I hear it.
I hope the fires are better up your way, Ellen. My daughter was at Yosemite when the large fire broke out there. She had to leave early from all the smoke. So many fires burning down the mountain from us, and everywhere out west. The loss of life, homes, forests.. so heartbreaking. ♥
Leyicet is Danny’s angel. 🙂

It was only yesterday Daniel was just a toddler. Now, he’s lost his first tooth. What a handsome young man he is. Children grow up soooooo fast.

My condolences, Angelsnell. Twenty-one months isn’t very long. One never “gets over” a loss — that empty space remains — but in time it can become easier to move forward with your life in the absence of a loved one; the ache of the loss still follows along, but becomes duller and less sharp.

I don’t think so, Cindy3. Southern Oregon is taking a real beating in terms of wildfires. And some of the fires are hitting our crown jewels. Last year it was the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. This year there are fires at Crater Lake National Park and Silver Falls State Park. And of course California has its own devastating wildfires. It seems like just yesterday when there was a heartbreaking loss of life in California because fires jumped erratically and people had little notice and couldn’t get out of harm’s way fast enough.
I really encourage people who want to see the West to schedule a visit sooner rather than later, before the fire season in a given year begins — just in case what you want to see isn’t there anymore by season’s end.

A good reminder: Dragging trailer chains, leaving campfires unattended, parking in dry grass, discharging firearms or fireworks, tossing cigarettes, and using mechanical equipment without spark arrestors are all known causes of wildfires.

Thank you for your kind words Ellen….my faith in God as well of Danny’s songs (of course) have helped me get through some of my most challenging life difficulties these past few years! GokeyGroupie

Very true, Ellen.
We are looking forward to more rain today. Only wish it would cover all of California, Oregon, and all the other states. 🙁
Have a beautiful day, everyone.

Hi Cindy, they were placing Danny in the same category as Daughtry (which lead the article). An alumnus that didn’t have to win Idol to have a successful musical career!

Got it! A lot of talent came from American Idol. Danny’s in good company. 🙂

Glad someone noticed and brought over the quote from that other site. I was pleasantly surprised by the post. Cindy3, that was not rude — not hardly. You haven’t seen rude if you never saw some of the things they used to say (and sometimes still do) about Danny. This was practically a gushing compliment. First, they used Danny’s full name instead of just calling him “Gokey,” which I detest. (They use the first name or first and last name for every other Idol contestant, including unloved/unpopular contestants like Taylor Hicks, Lee DeWyze, and Caleb Johnson.) Second, they admit that he was a popular contestant and that he has carved out a career for himself. Trust me, that is practically effusive compared to things that have been said in the past.

Cindy3, we are supposed to get a little bit of rain this Sunday and possibly Monday as well. The amount won’t make much dent in the rain deficit, but better than nothing. I posted that reminder about what can cause wildfires because although some of the things on the list are obvious — tossed cigarettes, unattended campfires, and fireworks, other items — parking in dry grass, dragging trailer chains, and using mechanical equipment without spark arrestors — are not as obvious, especially to visitors who may be unfamiliar with the West and its climate. (And sometimes, even to those of us who live here — I confess I have no idea what a spark arrestor is.)

I hate when the comments refer to Danny as Gokey on the other site… Pet peeve of mine.
I can understand your reaction, Cindy, but we will take the progress from hostile comments

Hoping “If You Ain’t In It” will keep climbing the charts. It’s fresh and peppy and a welcome change from some of the other songs on the chart right now. (One exception is Mandisa’s new song, which sounds very current.) I’ve only heard IYAII once, and although it was on Air1 (there is more than one Air1 station in the area), it was on a station affiliated with a local Christian college, which tends to play more upbeat and current-sounding songs.

Oh no, I understand. I never go on the other site. Through the years I remember how cruel people were, and all of your comments from that site. Actually, the opinions from over there really don’t matter to me. Danny is doing great, and they had, and will not have anything to do with it. 🙂
Woke up to cloudy skies and was hoping for the rain they said was coming. No rain, yet. The Carr Fire is now one of California’s worst fires. It was started by a spark from a car having problems. Heartbreaking..
Have a beautiful day!!

New discussion post up for August. It features a fun video from 2014

Bobby Bones has been promoted to Vice-President, creative director of iHeartCountry. I can’t help that will be a good thing for country radio, especially with the addition of a new show, Women of iHeartCountry, though I think it is sad that women need their own show in order to be heard.
That has nothing to do with Danny, but he did lead me to country music, so . . .

Ellen, I really like Bobby. Read his first book. He really fought all the odds against him to be successful.
Glad to see he will remain as a morning show for another 5 years and has expanded responsibilities/opportunities. Including his first official parking spot, LOL.
Cindy, you inspired me to find a video of Danny singing that song with his fellow Season 8 contestants on American Idol!
