Thriving, shining a light – Danny Gokey on the Hope EncounterTour

Danny Gokey on Hope Encounter Tour Dannygokeynews

You CAN Go Home Again*

While there was HUGE love for Danny Gokey in his hometown of Milwaukee during his run on “American Idol” it can be hard to sustain that support from local news and music critics when the cameras of AI were turned off.  Today’s article from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, “A decade after “American Idol”, Danny Gokey is thrives with first headlining tour, new record deal”  says a lot about the growth of Danny’s music career. It must feel really good to have this positive article in his hometown newspaper!  Interestingly, the things Danny said about his purpose in 2009 are now coming true, such as:

“Three days after the arena-packing “Idol” tour came to Milwaukee’s Bradley Center, Gokey announced a record deal….”I want to be an entertainer with a cause.”

Some other excerpts from the article:

“But a decade after his fateful audition for the singing competition show, Milwaukee native Danny Gokey is achieving new milestones.

Last year’s “Rise” — Gokey’s second album to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Christian albums chart  — earned Gokey his first Grammy nomination this year. He recently signed a deal with Capitol Records, joining a roster that includes Paul McCartney and Katy Perry. He’s filming a promising pilot for a reality show.”

And this daunting reveal:

“This is the biggest undertaking I’ve ever done. There are hundreds and hundreds of dollars in overhead,” Gokey said. “We’ve got three buses and a semi. … We’re spending $60,000 just on the fuel. It’s nerve-racking,”

And this sounds pretty good!

The releases recouped their costs, Gokey said, leading to a bidding war that led to the Capitol deal. “I’m thankful for the last label, but as we grow bigger, we needed bigger teams and stronger teams,” Gokey said. Capitol will be releasing new music before the end of the year,

  1. Really nice article, but I do have to take exception to Piet Levy insisting that Danny never sang country on American Idol. What does he call, “Jesus Take the Wheel” and “What Hurts the Most”??

  2. That’s truthiness for you! People remember what they want to remember. I can understand if Danny sang only one country song, as all the contestants sang country during the country theme week. But as I recall, Danny sang four country songs. “I Hope You Dance” was another one. Can’t remember what the fourth one was right now.

  3. Wonderful things are happening for Danny. I couldn’t be any more proud. 😊😊

  4. PS. I am kind of proud of that lead photo. I took it on the opening night of the tour. On my phone. ☺️
