New Tour Kicks Off

The Celebrate Christmas starts December 4th in Colorado Springs and ends near Seattle Washington on December 21st.

And for those of us that can’t make it to the tour, TBN will be running a repeat of last year’s taped concert. Also, new videos are rolling out for Danny’s “The Greatest Gift” Christmas album. The first one is for the fun,”The Holidays Are Here“.

  1. Love this Christmas 🎄 album!! Wish I could get to that tour…Santa can you help?? gokeygroupie

  2. Several good interviews published. And the new video is cute although I’m not always keen when artists bring in their kids. I may be reacting to an event I attended this past weekend with a very talented jazz trio. The lead brought his kids out to sing a song and play guitar with him. The young guitarist seemed quite talented but I had a rough time with four minutes of the earnest but offkey juvenile vocals 😳 (yes, grinch-y)

I saw the headline on the other site, clickbait for sure. Maybe the post today is a make-up, it has quite a lot of favorable items about award nominations and such.

No sign I guess of a Christmas single from the new Christmas album? Now that we are officially in December, I actually obtained a physical CD and may even play it… 😉

  3. Yes, but seeing the kids near the end of the video brought the Christmas song to life. It’s what Christmas is all about. 🙂
    I do understand, though.

  4. admin2, I actually checked the author of the current post about Danny’s new video to see if you were the author, since it was so much nicer and a full of good information. It didn’t seem possible it could be the same writer as the snarky headline!

Good news on the radio front. Here’s the stations spinning “Until You”

I don’t see any Christian stations playing The Holidays Are Here.

  6. I heard “Angels We Have Heard on High” on the radio yesterday on my way to work.

  7. That’s great Ellen! Isn’t it cool to hear Danny’s voice on radio? Your timing must be perfection, your drive isn’t very long, is it?

BTW, I did comment on the nice Christmas post on that other site. Got to show some interest when Danny is reported Inna positive light!

  8. The Holidays are Here seems like a very secular seasonal song. I didn’t replay it to check for sure, but it seemed that all the references were generic holiday and not even the word Christmas? Much less any spiritual sense of Christmas or related imagery, sentiment.

  9. I was a bit surprised to see that The Prayer is considered a new single. I thought some stations may have played it last year? #46

  10. I’m really loving “Christmas Night” on the new CD and truly enjoy “The Holidays Are Here” (loved the video, too)! Got to see Danny on his tour a few months ago (just before he got attacked by the clothes steamer 😬) and as always, loved him and the band.
What other site are you talking about? Always interested in reading about what’s going on with Danny!

  11. Jan, my commute has doubled. We’ve been moved to another building for the next couple of years, while they renovate the old building with seismic retrofitting for earthquake preparedness, and upgrades to the heating/cooling system, electrical system, and plumbing. It’s still not a long commute by most peoples’ standards, though.

  12. Hi Peggy! “just before he got attacked by the clothes steamer 😬” What a wonderful way to describe Danny’s accident 🙂

I just checked my local Christian station’s playlist and Danny’s Christmas music takes three spots! They started playing all Christmas music after Thanksgiving, like they do every year. Its the Most Wonderful Time of the Year is #6, The Prayer is #21 and look at this:

  15. Nice little review:

Danny Gokey, “The Greatest Gift: A Christmas Collection”

“American Idol” alum Gokey offers the expected (standards like “Silent Night” and “O Come All Ye Faithful”) and less predictable on this outing. It’s the latter selections, like the epic ballad “Until You” and the bouncy “The Holidays Are Here” (both Gokey co-writes), that elevate this holiday album.

  16. Girlygirl is a chart/numbers pro over at the site that will not be named….

She put together info on hitting BB Top 200.

Danny’s done very well with his albums:

“Ok, here’s the 2nd part of my chart, covering the total weeks on the BB Top 200 chart for the people who finished 3rd or 4th (including ties) on AI:

Unsurprisingly, finishing outside of the Top 2 has meant it’s been a struggle to get BB chart success. Especially in recent years. Again, the number of albums/EPs ONLY refers to those that charted on the BB Top 200; aside from the most recent contestants, most of these ex-AI contestants have released an album or EP of some sort.

ETA: Chris Daughtry has had two #1 albums, making him the only 3rd or 4th place finisher on AI to top the BB Top 200 chart. The 3rd & 4th place finishers have accounted for seven Top 10 albums (5 for Daughtry, 1 each for Elliott Yamin & Danny Gokey) & 11 Top 20 albums (in case this isn’t clear, the Top 20 albums include those that hit #1/ranked in the Top 10)

ETA2: Seasons 2, 5, 8, 10 & 11 are the only ones in which everyone who finished in the Top 4 has had at least one album/EP chart on the BB Top 200

    3rd place:

    Elliott Yamin (S5) (4 albums/EPs) 42 total weeks
    Danny Gokey (S8) (4 albums/EPs) 17 total weeks
    Haley Reinhart (S10) (2 albums/EPs) 14 total weeks
    Kimberley Locke (S2) (2 albums/EPs) 8 total weeks
    Melinda Doolittle (S6) (1 album/EP) 6 total weeks
    Joshua Ledet (S11) (1 album/EP) 6 total weeks
    Casey James (S9) (1 album/EP) 4 total weeks
    Angie Miller/Zealyn (S12) (1 album/EP) 1 total week
Nikki McKibbin (S1) (0 albums/EPs) 0 total weeks… no other 3rd placers got an album on the list….

  17. That’s a confusing summary on the BB200 but seems like it’s positive…

I thought The Prayer got into the top 30 or 40 last year on the CCM charts during the holiday period?

Maybe they didn’t consider it an official single (was that during the period of label changes?), or for Christmas they don’t worry about whether a song is “new” or not for it to chart?

  18. I think it did chart last year, but there wasn’t much of any promotion that I recall. (I was surprised…) So maybe it was now released as a single?

Other singles do not get multiple years to chart that I have seen… Not even Christmas songs. 😉

  19. When the Christmas album was released.I thought it was not what I expected and wont play it as much. That didnt happen. Its been played quite frequently while I am in the house doing other stuff. It grows on me.The holidays are here is still my favorite.

  20. That is very impressive on the charts. Can’t hurt when it comes to those GRAMMY noms…

  21. Kirsten reports the latest Billboard chart info for Danny:

    Danny Gokey:
“Haven’t Seen it Yet” [Album]: Christian 38 (45)
“The Greatest Gift” A Christmas Collection”: Christian 41 (39); Holiday Album Sales 9 (5)
“Angels We Have Heard on…”: Christian Airplay 26 (NEW)
“The Holidays are Here”: Christian Airplay 44 (NEW)
    “Until You”: Christian Airplay 25 (NEW);
    “Wanted”: Christian Airplay 49 (44); Christian Songs 39 (40)

I was surprised by “Until You”. Its not charting yet on Mediabase CAC. Clearly its getting airplay at other stations!

  22. One of the regular posters at that other site put together streaming numbers that include Danny. I am not sure whether the numbers include his country era and/or how the numbers might stack up against others in his genre not named Lauren Daigle.

  23. Nice to see Danny’s “Angels I Have Heard on High” has made top 30 (#25) on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart ad #29 on Billboardn CAC chart,.

Until You and Wanted are also on the Christian Airplay Chart at #31 and #50 – but both are losing spins…

  24. This article has a few things scrambled about Danny, but still an interesting read.

I remember clearly when we found out the video for “Second Hand Heart” was cancelled. I was in Nashville working on SHF with Danny. Just a couple of days before he was to shoot it, he was confident that RCA was moving forward, even though we saw that radio wasn’t responding well to the song ….

  25. I enjoyed the article, Jan.

I want to wish everyone Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays.

This has been a very difficult year, but filled with gratitude.

I very much wanted to see Danny and Natalie’s Christmas concert.
Unfortunately, l wasn’t able to go. My brother had a planned surgery right after Thanksgiving. There were complications, and he has been in ICU for most of this time. The good news is that he is improving. A long recovering ahead. Very grateful.

Happiness and Good Health for the new year ahead. ♥

  26. So sorry about your brother, Cindy3. I will keep him in my prayers.

This year has been a very difficult year for me as well. Two close friends have life-threatening illnesses. Barring a miracle, there is no cure. I won’t be sorry to see the backside of 2019 . . .

  27. Thank you, Ellen.

I will say a prayer for your friends. I believe in Hope and Miracles…

Yes, hoping 2020 is a little more calm.

  28. Merry Christmas Cindy3 and Ellen! We had most of our festivities yesterday (hosted the kids and grandkids) but enjoyed Christmas mass today 🙂

I’m sorry to hear how illness has impacted you both. (And that you missed Danny’s show, Cindy. Not sure if you planned to go, Ellen.)

As far as the CBN story. I think Danny’s fast talking ways must have confused the writer. He called Danny’s new album, “Christmas is Here” and he messed up when/how Danny and Leyicet met and started dating. Danny knew Leyicet before the video and label deal was cancelled. I met her when I was working at SHF and she was dating Danny. (Before the country label deal was ended.)

  29. Danny has four Christmas songs charting on CAC this week:

Angels, The Prayer, Holidays are Here, and Until You.

  30. It’s close to the end of the year, and I just want this opportunity to thank Jan and Admin2 for all of their efforts to make this a fun and informative fan site for Danny’s fans . . .

  31. Merry Christmas everyone, and best wishes to those dealing with tough situations personally or with friends & family.

I’ve been lurking to admire Jan’s posting abilities, haven’t had much to comment on. But as we finally got near to the Christmas season, I popped the new DG in the car and have been enjoying it. The four songs that are charting (Angels, The Prayer, Holidays are Here, and Until Your) are among my favorites, plus Joy to the World. The others are good, just not as much for the car experience 🙂

One reason I like the Prayer in the car is no one is listening when I try to emulate the vocals ( :O ) to see how wide a range they are each singing. For some reason, I always like trying to tease out the different parts in harmony songs.

  32. I’d thought the snowflakes were set to appear automatically when the season was right. But, umm, anyway – they are here now
