“A Nashville-based nonprofit foundation founded by “American Idol” alumni and contemporary Christian music singer-songwriter Danny Gokey has paid $1.4 million for 59.3 acres in Antioch with plans to eventually build a transitional housing complex.
Sophia’s Heart Foundation plans to use an existing building on the property at 4157 Moss Road for an information and referral program for homeless families. An equestrian therapy program and a community garden also are planned for adjacent land.
Construction plans are being drawn up for the transitional housing facility, which would house up to 30 families ….. That complex is expected to be completed in late 2017.
An interesting interview of Danny Gokey by Randy Cordova of “The Republic” on AZcentral.com. It covers topics as diverse as Danny’s thoughts on the value of his country music career, fitting in the Christian music genre and whether he’ll get another tattoo!
Here’s a few excerpts:
“The country market was so much fun to do, but it just feels like more of a family in the Christian market,” he says. “In terms of program directors, I became genuine friends with the people playing my music. That’s been invaluable. I never got to experience that in the country market, because there are a lot of bigger names in that market.”
Danny Gokey joined host Susie Larson of the radio program “Live the Promise” to share MANY of his new Christmas songs, tell how they were written or selected to be on “Christmas is Here” and also his back story on meeting Sophia and the loss that led up to establishing his charity, Sophia’s Heart.
I am sure you are going to LOVE this interview as much as I did! It was a thrill to hear “Mary Did You Know”, “O Holy Night”, “Lift Up Your Hearts” and “Give Me Jesus” on my local radio for the first time as well as clips from many of the other songs!
The 2015 Sophia’s Heart Gala in Nashville, Tennessee
When Jan asked me to write a recap of this wonderful evening, I had no idea how much fun my husband and I would have.
First, though, I would like to tell you a little about my 6-year history as a fan of Danny Gokey. When a young man in his late twenties captivated my heart (along with many others’) singing his heart out of Season 8 of American Idol. I voted my fingers off (along with many other fans)…he should’ve won and I wasn’t the only one disappointed when he didn’t…He did win the hearts of so many & it was just the beginning for him! A new chapter in his life & the BEST was yet to come! Not only in his music but in his personal life. He is a passionate follower of Christ and an encourager who regularly uses social media to share God’s word & wisdom.
The annual Sophia’s Heart Gala is ALL about the kids it supports in its 5th year as a Music and Arts Program in Danny Gokey’s hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The first gala occurred in 2012 with 150 participants; predominantly fans.
